In what has been a great week at Goodwood Races, all eyes – including mine – are on Saturday as the occasion looks to come to a close in West Sussex.
It seems that the weather looks set to be fairly good racing conditions for both horses and spectators alike which I think should help to add to the day and provide a decent level of enjoyment for all involved.
With that in mind, I have selected a number of horses to keep an eye on in various races who we think have a good chance of performing well.
Who Are Ones To Watch?
In the Sussex Stakes, I have identified Field Of Gold as one to look out for. Trained by John and Thady Gosden, he dominated the Irish Guineas before effortlessly winning the St. James Palace Stakes being clearly ahead on form. Despite what will likely be a short price, he brings class, weight advantage and peak fitness to the mile test.
The 1m4f Hanficap, Roger Varian-trained, Sudu draws the eye for me and is definitely capable of setting the temp over what will be a stamina sapping race.
In the Oak Tree Stakes, I like Bright Thunder who presents an eye-catching opportunity having been consistent recently. While Jabaara won this last year, the ground might not suit his weight, therefore Bright Thunder could be more favourable.
Meanwhile, the Short Sprint 5f Dash, Lady Iman with Ryan Moore steering could be the one to beat, however, Military Code also appeals following strong Sandwon form and is effective over fast ground.
A couple have jumped out for me in the 7f Handicap, including Luna Mia who ran well at Curragh, demonstrating impressive stamina, though I also think that Spicy Marg could make a statement, having shown great consistency and could be an ideal pick over seven furlongs.
A Promising Day In Store To Cap Off A Great Week
Goodwood always presents great racing action and this week has been no different. There have been a few eye-catching performances – indeed (Ryan) Moore has caught the eye with his winning performance on Omni Man in the Coral Pipped At The Post Winners Handicap, while he was unlucky in the race that followed (HJKC World Pool Oak Tree Stakes), to finish second aboard Tabiti, with Saqqara Sands coming in first.
On balance, it’s not been a bad week for Moore, who has continued his mometum for the season and he will be hoping he can cap it off in great fashion on Saturday.
