With the flat season completely in full swing, we bring you a preview of the best horse racing action for this Saturday and I have my eye on quite a few chances.
The main meeting appears to be from Newbury, though there are quite a few other meetings as well that have caught my attention.
With that in mind, I’ve reviewed the action and given my thoughts on who I think are ones to watch.
Who Stands Out At Newbury?
In the Geoffrey Freer Stakes, I like the look of Epic Poet. This is a horse that appears to consistently run a good race though he’s yet to hit top form on UK courses and I think that this could present a great opportunity to reach his potential.
The 7f Handicap, meanwhile, gives me confidence that Classic (Richard Hannon), could be a standout and his pace means that he could dominate early from the front and stay there, especially on quick ground.
Another I like is in the Nursery Handicap. Sunny Smile seems to be one who is making good progress, especially after his showing at Hamilton and on a workable mark, I think he’s the one to beat.
What Is Going On Elsewhere?
At Ripon, it is Great St. Wilfrid Day; the key race being the Great St. Wilfrid Stakes – Ripon’s most valuable flat handicap race of the season. Rousing Encore is certainly one that stands out for me, with odds of around 5/1 and I can’t really see past him. If you want good value as well, in the 14.45, Bay Breeze could deliver each/way at around 18/1.
Should action at Doncaster be on your radar, this kicks off with the Maiden Fillies’ Stakes where I’m liking the sound of New Vega who was impressive on her debut at Sandown and could be one for a positive performance.
The Nursery Juvenile Handicap for me sees Dublin Bay jump out as a possible contender, having just victored at Ffos Las – that momentum could well lend credible potential.
In the Quality Freight Services Celebrating 30 years Handicap race, Gandlad is one I’d be on and seems well-fancied to take this sprint test.
Moving onto Market Rasen, there are a few horses that catch my eye here. One of those is the Mares’ Maiden Hurdle and for me, I’m looking at Joueuse Royal who has returned to form with a strong finish at Uttoxeter, coming in second. She could well push on and go one better here.
Finally, in the Daily Sports Boost Handicap Chase, I like Prospect House, who has proven consistency around this track in the past. He is a strong contender, with two wins and two seconds recently.
